Accessing Reading Counts from Home

Parents, please use the Reading Counts link above to log into Reading Counts,  Just for your information, the website portal is called HMH Central.

To log in use your child’s first initial, last initial, and lunch number (student ID number) as the username (lower case letters).  For the password use school1 (lower case letters).  For example Jane Doe with a lunch number 12345 would look like this:

Username: jd12345

Password: school1

After logging in, there are two choices on the bottom of the screen.  Under the Assessments section, click on the “Reading Counts!” icon on the right lower side of the screen.  After clicking on the icon, there will be a few choices from the center of the screen. The majority of the time your child will click on “Take A Quiz” on the top of the screen. From there he/she can type in the author or title of the book and take the quiz. Even if you don’t type the whole thing, the program should be able to find it.  NOT ALL BOOKS HAVE TESTS.  Please have your child check the list prior to reading the book if they want to make sure to get words awarded.  Do Not Click on Go until you have checked the author and version of the book as there can be many to choose from and it is difficult to delete an incorrect selection after the choice has been made.

Last but not least, Ms. Caridi’s 3rd Grade Classroom (E-33) is open every Tuesday after school to help and assist with kids needing help or a computer to use when taking the test.  Parents are welcome to join as well if they have questions.
